About this episode

Biodiversity loss isn’t just an environmental issue, it’s a systemic risk for business, society, and the global economy.

In this episode, Marco Lambertini, former Director General of WWF International, shares why protecting nature is no longer optional for business leaders. As Convener of the Nature Positive Initiative, he’s bringing together scientists, policymakers, and CEOs to halt and reverse nature loss by 2030.

This conversation explores the rising expectations on business, why nature is fast becoming a boardroom issue, and what it will take to build a global economy that works with nature, not against it. It’s a call to action for leaders ready to move beyond disclosure and towards meaningful action.

Marco Lambertini

Global Conservation Leader, Convener of the Nature Positive Initiative

Marco Lambertini is one of the world’s most influential voices in conservation. As Director General of WWF International from 2014 to 2022 - and later its Special Envoy - he helped shape global environmental diplomacy, playing a visible role in landmark agreements from the Paris Climate Accord to the UN Global Biodiversity Framework.

Today, he convenes the Nature Positive Initiative: a global alliance uniting business, policy, and civil society around one mission: to halt and reverse biodiversity loss by 2030.

Across a career spanning four decades and multiple continents, Marco has pushed nature to the top of the global agenda. He previously led BirdLife International, has served on high-level advisory boards including the China Council for International Cooperation on Environment and Development, and is a frequent speaker at major summits and forums on biodiversity and sustainability.

He lives in Switzerland and continues to advocate for a world where economies thrive by restoring, not depleting, the natural systems they rely on.
