Transforming a retail icon’s people experience

People Made and Currys have been Highly Commended in the Best Talent Approaches for Business Culture category at the 2025 Business Culture Awards, recognised for an organisation-wide reinvention of how the FTSE 250 retailer understands, supports and develops its people.

The work marks a significant shift for a 150-year-old business navigating new expectations around culture, flexibility and talent retention. Currys partnered with People Made to reset its employer brand and colleague experience from the ground up, with a clear ambition to create something genuinely shaped by the people who keep the business running every day.

A colleague-driven EVP shaped by real experience

To build an authentic picture of life inside Currys, the People Made team went behind the scenes across the organisation - listening to colleagues on shop floors, in warehouses, on customer service calls and in head office roles. These conversations revealed what employees valued most: teams built on care and support, genuine flexibility in how and where they work, opportunities to grow at every stage, and a belief that the business should always aim to do the right thing, particularly around sustainability.

Those insights became the foundation of Welcome to Amazing, a new employer value proposition designed to reflect both the reality of working at Currys and the culture the company aspires to create.

Since its launch, the EVP has been closely linked with falling attrition, higher job-offer acceptance rates, rising engagement scores and a meaningful increase in female representation in store leadership roles - strong indicators of a people strategy connecting with colleagues across the business.

Why the work stood out

This year’s Best Talent Approaches for Business Culture category brought together organisations using talent and culture strategy to drive long-term business strength. People Made and Currys stood alongside brands such as ATG Entertainment, Dishoom, Odeon Cinemas and Taylor Wimpey.

Their Commendation reflects the growing recognition that meaningful cultural change begins with understanding the lived experience of employees - and translating those insights into actions that make work better, fairer and more engaging.
